The Philippines needs to build up their native forests and tree lots to protect against the damage done by the average of 20 typhoons and storms that hit the country every year. Those storms are not going to stop. But the people can begin to prevent the damage that is done by protecting the land. Trees have root systems to keep the dirt and land in place. Trees slow damaging winds at the ground level. Remove those trees and there's nothing to hold the dirt when the rain and floods come. Clear the land to make a farm and that farm becomes a lake when it floods, serving nobody. More native trees need to be planted in strategic locations.
